New to the hill
Never skied or snowboarded? Here’s what to do before your first Friday.
Before your first club night
- Register for the season and pay for your membership card.
- Get this season’s Parental Permission and Insurance Affidavit from a sponsor. A parent and the student both sign it.
- If you’ll rent, print and sign Mt. Holly’s rental disclaimer and save your rental sizes.
- Sign up for that Friday by Thursday at 10 pm, and ask for a lesson.
- Pay for that Friday’s lift ticket (and rental, if you need one) by Thursday at 10 pm, or bring cash to the club table. See Pricing.
What to wear and bring
- Warm layers, with a waterproof jacket and snow pants on the outside.
- One pair of warm socks. One pair is better than two.
- A hat, waterproof gloves or mittens, and a neck gaiter.
- A helmet. Students wear one at all times on the hill. If you don’t own one, ask for one when you sign up each week.
- Your membership card. Mt. Holly needs to see the physical card.
- A packed snack, if you like. Takeout food isn’t allowed in the lodge.
Your first night
- Arrive after 3 pm (you’ll tell us when, in the weekly sign-up) and find the club table in the lounge. Look for our sign with the club logo.
- Pick up your lift ticket and hand in your signed affidavit, plus the rental disclaimer if you’re renting.
- If you rented, collect your equipment at the rental shop.
- Head to the green flag for your first lesson at 5:00 or 6:00 pm, with your lesson ticket ready for the instructor.
- You won’t earn a patch on your first night. Until you do, stay where your instructor shows you; signs at each lift show which patch you need.
- Check your gear into the free corral when you take a break.
